Episode 502: Where Are You?
As a soldier the first thing you notice is that your shoulder has been tended to. The chains that hold you to the wall pull your arms up slightly, normally this would be a simple inconvenience but now it causes constant pain. Oddly the pain is more of an annoyance than anything and you wonder what sort of medicine these people have used on you. More importantly, why?
You sigh and resign yourself to the fact that you won't know until someone comes. You lean your head back against the cold stone wall and allow your mind to think of Nigel.
Of the twenty men King Arthur sent with you, Nigel was the only one you knew well. You met on your first day of training and have been almost inseparable since. He had become like a brother to you. He was engaged to your sister for goodness sake!
You eyes shut with dismay. "Christina," you murmur. You picture her in your mind. She has hooded white eyes that are like two pearls. Her fine, straight, red hair is worn in a style that reminds you of silk. She is slightly tall and has a voluptuous build. Her skin is tan. Her wardrobe is dignified, with a lot of yellow and red. Your little sister would be heartbroken.
Your time for grief ends when the door to your cell opens. Light ports in and you see the silhouette of a tall man in a black cloak. A servant follows him in and lights the lamps that are bolted to the wall high above your head.
"Hello," the cloaked man greets with false friendliness. He couches down to be at your eye level. "How are you feeling?"
You take a moment to study him. He's tall and would probably be considered attractive. His smile, though fake, is charming. If it wasn't for the fact that the man had you chained to a wall, your first impression of him would be that he is a good man.
"I would feel better without the chains," you finally reply. "And I could have done without the clich entrance."
The man's smile widens and you wonder if he's close enough for you to kick him in the face. And, if he is, would your foot go through him as your sword did or would you hear the satisfactory crunch of his nose breaking?
The man stares at you as though he's trying to read your thoughts. What to do?
